Did you ever wonder what you wanted to be when you grew
up? Besides the passing fantasy of what it might
be like to be a pro tennis player, I can't say I ever
had any idea of what I wanted to do with my life.
After
college, grad school and a variety of office jobs, I
finally, at the age of 36, began to zero in on something
that felt meaningful to me -- what my "niche" might be.
A
life changing experience occurred in early 1985 when I
arrived home early from grocery shopping to find an
injured bird laying on the deck. Much
to my surprise, my hands immediately started pulsating,
throbbing and tingling in a way that got my full
attention. My first impulse was to direct this
energy coming through my hands toward that bird (though
I had no idea what this energy was or "what" I was
doing) and to visualize the bird as whole and well.
This was a completely new experience for me.
After
that I kept wondering what that episode had been about
and was I supposed to do something more with my hands?
Shortly thereafter, a Reiki training came to town.
I took the class and it felt so natural and right to be
quietly with someone and just allow whatever energy to
flow through my hands to them. Some months after
the training I remember thinking it would be nice to
know how to add some movement with my hands while in
this very allowing space. In the summer of 1988, a
beginning Trager training came to Chapel Hill. In
spite of my fears and doubts, I felt strongly drawn to
take the class. I found the poetic quote by Milton
Trager irresistible: There is a way of being which
is lighter which is freer. A way in which work as well
as play becomes a dance and living a song. We can learn
this way."
In that first Trager training, I felt like I had really
come home to myself in a way that I had not experienced
before. I felt so much more "at home" in my body,
and I felt a much deeper level of self-acceptance and
ease.
The
Trager way of being was in my heart and I knew I wanted
to share the wonderful experience of this gentle, yet
deep, nurturing, freeing "work" with others. I am
so grateful to Milton Trager for his approach which has
helped me to create so much more ease in my life and in
my daily activities. - Lorraine |
